"I describe incidents which
may or may not have happened but
which are true."
- Elie Wiesel (1970)
In an interview which appears in The
Post & Courier, September 11, 2011,
Elie Wiesel claimed he was offered the
Israeli president's job:
Q: You
have long been a supporter
of Israel, and were once
invited to consider public
office there.
A: (Laughing)
I was offered to be a president.
I was under pressure in the
first few weeks, and, you know
how it is, the more I said no,
the harsher the pressure grew.
In 1952 Albert Einstein turned down an
offer to become Israel's president.
Perhaps Wiesel's doing what he does
best.
