Franz Stangl in Dusseldorf prison
shortly before his death
New Nazi Death Camp Treblinka boss,
describes the scene on his arrival:
"twenty minutes' drive away, we
began to see corpses next to the rails"
"When I got out of the car ... I
stepped knee deep into money ...
currency, precious stones,
jewellery ... they were everywhere."
"Whores from Warsaw ... drunk,
dancing, singing playing music"
SS Hauptsturmführer Franz Stangl was
commandant of Nazi Death Camps: Sobibor
& Treblinka.
After WWII he escaped to Brazil, where
he was registered with the Austrian
consulate
in São Paulo under his real name. In
fact the Austrians didn't issue a
warrant for his
arrest until 1961, when
legendary bullshit artist Simon
Wiesenthal tracked him down.
He was finally arrested in
1967 and extradited to West German to
stand witch-trial.
Despite denying that Jews had been
gassed at Sobibor and Treblinka, Stangl
was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Whilst he was awaiting his appeal, he
was interviewed on several occasions by
British Jewish Holocaust historian Gita
Sereny. One day after Sereny last
visited Stangl in prison, he dropped
dead.
Despite having maintain his innocence of
gassing Jews during his trial, and was
await his appeal
on that basis. He decided to admit all
to Sereny, and confess that he did gas
Jews after all.
Well, that's Sereny's version anyway, as
she never recorded her interviews with
him,
and as he dropped dead a day after she
last interviewed him. She "in theory"
could
credit any words she wanted to him, with
no chance that he would deny it.
