During the Six Days War in 1967 the invading Israeli army even massacred Indian UN troops (14 Indians killed, 21 wounded, 19 missing). Mrs Indira Gandhi called these Israeli attacks "deliberate and without provocation", and asked the House to "unreservedly condemn this cowardly attack" (see "India in the Middle East", by Prithvi Ram Mudiam, p. 166).
Now the tone has changed, the Indian leaders bow to World Zionism and try to make strategic alliances with Israel to get benefits in India´s policies against Pakistan and to enhance India´s armed forces. The gigantic Indian company Tata has started cooperation with Israel Aerospace Industries for production of missile systems, radar, electronic warfare and security systems, and Ratan Tata, chairman of India's Tata group was present in Israel in 2008 to celebrate Israel´s 60th anniversary. President Shimon Peres is bringing in top personalities from around the world to celebrate Israel's 60th birthday.
United States President George W. Bush, Barbra Streisand, Tony Blair, Mikhail Gorbachev and Rupert Murdoch are among those expected to attend a May conference focusing on Jewish and Israeli contributions to humanity.
"We are going to have probably 10 presidents from different countries, six former presidents, ministers, prime ministers, scientists, philosophers, artists," Peres said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press.
The conference is expected to be one of the highlights of weeks of celebrations marking Israel's 60th, including concerts, Holocaust remembrance events, a workshop promoting Arab-Israeli coexistence and a 750-mile trans-Israel bicycle trail.
The May 13-15 conference will open with a tribute to Israel's staunchest ally, the United States. It will be attended by Bush and feature Streisand singing the Hebrew prayer Avinu Malkeinu - Our Father Our King - which Peres described as unbelievably beautiful.
"After 60 years we want to stand up and say 'thank you America," Peres said.
Peres said the subjects of the conference are as varied as one can think of... from arts and science and philosophy and medicine and ecology.
He said most of the of the conference's 2,000 participants will be Jewish, but that it's open to people of all faiths.
The list of confirmed guests also includes Henry Kissinger, Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, former Czech President Vaclev Havel, Harvard Professor Alan Dershowitz, Google founder Sergey Brinn, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerman, Ratan Tata, chairman of India's Tata group, U.S. billionaire Sheldon Adelson, and Abdurrahman Wahid, former president of Indonesia, a country with no diplomatic relations with Israel.
The date for Israel's Independence Day is marked each year according to the Hebrew calendar and falls this year on May 8.
Israel Aerospace, Tata in joint military firm

The Israel Aerospace Industries board yesterday approved initial investment up to $50 million in a joint venture with Tata Advanced Systems, a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate, Tata. The new jointly-owned firm, to be named Nova Integrated Systems and based in India, will establish development, production, marketing and sales operations for missile systems, radar, electronic warfare and security systems, following the IAI's business paradigm. The two firms plan to invest up to $1 billion.
The IAI will initially put up $16 million for a 26% stake in the firm, with the Indian partner holding the remaining 74%. If Indian law is amended to allow foreign companies to do so, the IAI will make use of the option to increase its stake in the firm to 50%. IAI has also undertaken to provide financing or guarantees of another $20 million, matched by the Indian partner.
The funds will be used to establish infrastructure, buy equipment and land and finance labor costs . Once the shares have been allocated, the board will be comprised of four-12 directors to be appointed based on each company's relative shareholding. The IAI will have a veto right in the board's important decisions. The CEO will be jointly appointed and its chief financial officer will be appointed by IAI, which is entitled to appoint an observer to the new company's board until shares have been allocated and the investment transferred.
The IAI is now waiting for final approval of a huge $1.5 billion sale of advanced security systems to India. Final approval has been delayed following publication of findings that allegedly point to bribes paid by IAI to procure tenders. Indian authorities have recently reopened the agreement, aiming to trim IAI's price tag, and the IAI has delayed delivery of Airborne Warning and Control (AWAC) planes to India. The Indian press reports that the first of three spy planes have already been delivered, but IAI declined to confirm the report. According to earlier reports, the delivery of the first plane was delayed because of faults in the plane's systems, which were discovered and repaired.
Tata-Israel Aerospace Industries Sign MoU To Set Up JV Company

Homegrown business conglomerate Tata Advanced Systems and Israel’s biggest defence and aerospace company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have signed up a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to establish a joint venture (JV) company in India to make missiles, pilotless drones, electronic warfare systems and other defence equipment.
The MoU was signed between the Chairman, Tata Sons, Mr Ratan Tata, and the President and Chief Executive Officer, IAI, Mr Itzhak Nissan on the sidelines of the DefExpo 2008 in New Delhi.
The new JV will also assist other Indian business houses to build up technology as suppliers to IAI
Ratan Tata said, “We believe that the coming together of Tatas and IAI will positively impact the growth of the defence industry in India and complement the efforts of our Defence labs, Ordnance factory board and defence public sector undertakings.”
“The new IAI-TATA JV reflects our commitment to deepen our relations with Indian industry” said Itzhak Nissan, “Together, we will be able to offer a wide range of defence products and to boost the capabilities of local Indian defence industries.”
This JV deal is the fourth major defence deal signed by Tata Advanced Systems within last few days.
The other deals signed by the Tata group companies are with American Aircraft major Boeing, leading helicopter firm Sikorsky and the European Defence and Aerospace Consortium.
