Pro-Shas Radio Station Owner Threatens on Air to Kill Sarid

Police are investigating Israel Bundak, proprietor of the pirate radio
station "Voice of the East," for broadcasting death threats on Friday
against MK Yossi Sarid (Meretz).
Against the background of gunfire, Bundak said during the Friday
broadcast that he was going to kill Sarid, referring to him as "Yousuf," an
Arab name, instead of Yossi.
Bundak described a situation in Hebrew: "You are riding on a horse in the
desert and from afar you see a well, but as you approach to drink from the
well, Yousuf Sarid is standing there with his Arab dagger and, like Ali
Baba, doesn't allow you to drink. What would you do?"
He then switched to English and continued: "I am going to kill Yossi Sarid
because Yousuf Sarid is (sic) not love the dat (religion). Yousuf Sarid is
love the bagatz (High Court)."
Sarid said yesterday that "I don't generally respond to threats against me,
but this time a red line was crossed. This is not merely a case of
incitement or even a sanction for bloodshed. This is a direct and explicit
call for murder. Now we'll see if the police and attorney general and
others know how to deal with this ... if this station remains open tomorrow
and continues to broadcast, and if the broadcaster continues to walk
around freely tomorrow - then all of the dikes have been breached and
there is total chaos in the country."
The Voice of the East is one of the pirate stations Shas is seeking to
legalize as part of the retroactive legislation permitting the broadcast of
the settlers' radio station.
