India, Israel to fight terror together

The foreign ministers of Israel and India agreed yesterday to hold a joint
forum for combating terrorism. The decision was made during a meeting
between the two in Jerusalem where Foreign Minister David Levy hosted
Indian Foreign Minister, Jasvant Singh, who is currently paying an official
visit to Israel.
According to an Israeli source, the cooperation revolves around sharing
intelligence information and assessments but not operational activities.
Singh warned against the international threat of terrorism, particularly the
threat of separatists in Kashmir who are being supported by Pakistan and
the Taliban in Afghanistan. The Indian minister said that there is a "band
of terrorism" that he says stretches from the southern Caucasus to parts
of western China. Singh emphasized that "radical movements taint Islam"
because of their terrorist activities.
The two ministers discussed further cooperation on technology, culture,
economics and strategy. Levy promised to raise the issue of limiting the
restrictions which Israel imposes on Indian programmers working in the
high-tech industry in Israel.
U.S. upset by Israeli radar sale to India
According to a report published in Ha'aretz yesterday, Washington wants
Israel to cancel the sale to India of a radar system used for warning of
ballistic missile launches.
The sale, originally approved by then-defense minister Moshe Arens, is
for the "Green Pine" (Oren Yarok) system, based on technology similar to
the airborne Phalcon radar system, which the U.S. government is
demanding that Israel not sell to China.
The deal with India has been long-delayed by U.S. objections to the sale.
Only last year were American sanctions imposed on India by the U.S. as
reaction to its nuclear tests, were eased. Fearing that Israeli technology
will intensify the already tense situation between the two nuclear rivals on
the Indian subcontinent, India and Pakistan, the U.S. had demanded, and
received, Israel's consent for a final consultation before transferring the
radar to India
