Paris Fingers Mossad Killer

PARIS - France's investigation into the 1992 Paris murder of Palestine
Liberation Organization security chief Atef Bseiso has come to a close,
with investigators pointing the finger at the Mossad.
Details of the investigator's report were published yesterday in the
French daily Le Figaro.
The investigators believe that the Israeli secret service enlisted the help
of another senior PLO figure, Adnan Yasin, in carrying out the
assassination. Bseiso, who was 44 at the time of the murder, was gunned
down at the Meridien Montparnasse hotel on the night of July 7, 1992.
Two men shot him at close range, gathered the fallen bullet cartridges and
quickly disappeared. The Abu Nidal organization claimed responsibility
for the murder, but PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat accused the Israelis.
The French report includes an interview with Uri Saguy, who was head of
Israel's General Security Service at the time of the assassination. Saguy
denied any Israeli involvement, but recalled Bseiso's part in the murder of
Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics.
The French invested a great deal of effort in investigating the killing
because Bseiso was an important source of information for the DST, the
French secret service.
Bseiso had decided to make this trip only the night before. Only three
people had advance knowledge of his plans, one of whom was the man
responsible for PLO operatives' trips abroad, Adnan Yasin.
France's top investigator on the case, Jean Louis Bruguiere, asked the
PLO at the beginning of 1993 for a list of the calls made from Yasin's
telephone at the PLO's Tunis headquarters. The PLO did not respond, but
three months later, Yasin was arrested and charged with treason and
espionage in the service of Israel.
Yasin admitted while in custody that he had been an agent of the Mossad.
